Restaurant Dumpster Pad and Bin Cleaning: Grease, Smell and Early Mornings

Nobody needs bin cleaning more than a restaurant. Food waste, fryer grease and summer heat turn a back lot into the worst-smelling spot on the block in about three days. Flies, rats and a health inspector who notices are all part of the picture. Restaurant owners know it, and many will pay well to make it go away.

Different From Apartments, Same Idea

Apartment pads, covered in Apartment Complex Bin Cleaning: Carts, Corrals and Dumpster Pads on One Property, are dirty. Restaurant pads are dirtier and greasier. They also come with tighter schedules, because a restaurant has deliveries, prep and service that you cannot get in the way of.

But the setup is the same: one client, one or more addresses, clear notes and a clear bill.

What You Are Actually Cleaning

Walk the back of the restaurant before you quote. You will usually find some mix of:

Price the pad and the carts as separate lines on your service list. A pad with grease is slow work, needs degreaser and may need a second pass. Underquoting it is the fastest way to lose money on a restaurant. For more on pad work specifically, read Dumpster Pad Cleaning and Grease: Adding Pad Work to a Bin Cleaning Route.

Also ask the owner what the hauler requires and what the city allows for wash water from a commercial pad. Rules vary by place, and you want to know them before your first visit, not after.

Timing: Before Open or After the Rush

Most restaurants want you before the kitchen crew arrives or in the gap between lunch and dinner. Breakfast places want you early afternoon. Bars may want you mid-morning. Ask, and write the window into the access notes so it shows on the crew's phone and on the dispatch board.

The other timing question is the hauler. Clean the pad right after the dumpster is emptied, not before. Ask the owner which days the dumpster is picked up and plan the stop for that day or the next morning.

On the board, put restaurants with early windows at the top of the route and set the order by hand. Then auto-route the rest of the day Closest First or Furthest First from the shop.

Frequency

Weekly is common for restaurants in hot months; every other week or monthly may be enough in winter or for a small cafe. Set the plan by minimum days between visits, 7, 14 or 28, and the cleanings come due on the Waiting List on their own. If a restaurant wants to bump from monthly to weekly for summer, change the plan and the Waiting List follows.

Access and Contacts

Back lots are often shared with neighbors and locked at night. Note the essentials on the address:

On-the-way and arrived alerts by text let the kitchen manager know you are there, so they can move the grease bin or open the gate.

Photos for the Owner and the Inspector

Restaurant owners are rarely there when you clean. Before and after photos taken in the tech app are saved with every job, so when the owner asks what they are paying for, you show them. Some owners like to keep those photos handy for health inspection visits; that is their call, but having a dated record of each cleaning helps them.

Restaurant Groups and Billing

If an owner has three locations, make the restaurant group one client with three addresses. Set it to Monthly billing and they get one statement covering every location, each line labeled with the address. Their bookkeeper will thank you.

Single restaurants often prefer a card on file charged when the job is completed or on a schedule. Groups may want to pay by check against the statement. That is your policy to set per account. Restaurants also open and close quickly, so a card on file is a reasonable thing to require for a new account.

Bottom Line

Restaurant work is messy, early and well worth it if you price the pad properly and show up on time. For the tools that make it run, see the commercial bin cleaning software page.
