The Tech App in Trash Can Cleaning Software: What the Crew Sees in the Field
The office plans the day. The tech runs it, standing at the curb in wet boots with a pressure wand in one hand. Whatever the tech sees on the phone has to be quick to read and quick to use, or it gets ignored.
Where the Route Goes Next
In Routing in Trash Can Cleaning Software: Building the Day Around Trash Day, the office built each trailer's route on the dispatch board. This article follows that route out to the field and onto the tech's phone. It is an overview of what the tech app does and why each piece matters for a bin cleaning crew.
On the Phones Your Crew Already Has
The TrashCanBossPro tech app runs in the browser on iPhone and Android and can be installed to the home screen. There is no special device to buy. Techs log in with your company login and their own personal PIN, so every job, photo and clock-in is tied to the right person.
The Day in Route Order
When the tech opens the app, they see their jobs for the day in the order set on the dispatch board. First stop at the top, last stop at the bottom. If the office moves a job during the day, the list follows.
Each job card has a navigation button. One tap opens directions to the address. Nobody types addresses into a phone while towing a trailer.
Cans and Location on Every Card
This is where bin cleaning software differs from generic job apps. Each card shows the cans under the address: "2 trash · 1 recycling · Trash day Tue." Under that, the can location note tells the tech where to look: "Left side of garage, behind the gate, code 2219." Office notes show on the card too.
A tech who has never been to the address knows how many cans to expect and where they are before getting out of the truck.
Start, Skip, Complete
Three buttons run the stop:
- Start tells the office the stop is underway.
- Skip is for cans that weren't out, were still full or couldn't be reached. The office sees the skip right away and can call the customer or move the job.
- Complete closes out the stop and kicks off billing.
Before and after photos taken in the app stay with the job. They are proof the cans were cleaned, and they settle most "you missed my cans" calls in a minute.
Texts the Tech Never Types
As the tech works the route, the customer gets automatic "on the way" and "arrived" texts. Customers choose which alerts they want in the customer app: the night before, when they're next, and when the tech arrives. The tech never stops to send a message, and the customer knows to have the gate open. More on the customer side in The Customer App: What Bin Cleaning Customers See on Their Phone.
Paid When the Job Is Done
When the tech taps Complete, the invoice is created and the card on file can be charged. The tech does not collect cash or write receipts. For most residential plan customers, the cleaning and the payment happen at the same moment.
The Time Clock and Crew GPS
Techs clock in and out on the same phone, so hours are recorded as they happen. During the day, crew GPS from the techs' phones shows on the office map. The office can see where each trailer is, answer "when will you be here?" calls, and spot a route that is running behind.
Why It Matters for a Bin Cleaning Crew
Without a tech app, routes run on paper sheets, gate codes in group texts, and the owner's memory. That works only as long as the owner runs every route. The moment you hire, every stop becomes a phone call.
With the tech app, any tech can run any route. The cans, the location, the gate code and the order are all on the phone. The office knows what happened at every stop without asking, and the customer gets texts without anyone typing them.
The Takeaway
The tech app puts the route, the cans and the payment in the tech's hand: login with a PIN, jobs in route order, navigation, cans and location, Start / Skip / Complete, photos, automatic texts and a time clock.
