Charging the Card on File When the Bin Cleaning Tech Taps Complete
Bin cleaning is a volume business with small tickets. A monthly customer might pay $25 or $35 a visit. When you have hundreds of those, chasing each payment by hand eats the margin. The cleanest answer is to get paid the moment the work is done, without the tech touching money at all.
From the Arrived Text to the Payment
The customer knew the tech was there because of the text in The Arrived Text: Telling the Homeowner Their Cans Are Being Cleaned. When the cans are clean and the tech taps Complete, the money side takes over.
Complete creates the invoice for the stop. If the customer has a card on file and is set to be charged on completion, the card can be charged right then. The customer gets their invoice, the payment is recorded, and the stop is closed out before the trailer pulls away from the curb.
What the Tech Does
Nothing beyond tapping Complete. The tech does not ask for a card, carry a card reader, take cash, or write a receipt. They wash the cans, take the after photo and tap the button. Billing happens behind them.
That matters for two reasons. Techs are hired to clean cans, not collect money, and most of them would rather not have that conversation at the curb. And most bin cleaning customers are not home anyway, so there is no one to ask.
Getting the Card on File
Payment at completion only works if the card is already there. The easiest moment to collect it is at sign-up. The TrashCanBossPro sign-up form captures the customer's card along with their address, cans and plan. When the office converts the sign-up into a client with one click, the card comes with it.
Customers can also add or update their card in the customer app. When a card expires, the customer can put in the new one without calling the office. Past-due follow-up helps catch the ones that slip through.
Charge on Completion or on a Schedule
Not every company bills the same way. Some charge each cleaning as it happens. Others prefer to charge on a schedule, such as at the start of each month for a monthly plan. TrashCanBossPro supports both: auto-charge on completion, or auto-charge on a schedule.
Charging on completion lines the money up with the work. If a stop is skipped because the cans were full, no charge goes out until the stop is actually done. That avoids billing customers for cleanings that did not happen, which is one of the fastest ways to lose a subscription.
Monthly Accounts for HOAs and Businesses
Some customers do not want a charge every visit. An HOA paying for every home in a neighborhood, a property manager with several buildings or a restaurant group with dumpster pads at five locations would rather get one bill.
For those accounts, set the client to Monthly billing. Completed stops roll into one statement each month that covers every address they own, with each line labeled by address. The tech still taps Complete at each stop the same way. The difference is all on the billing side. More on those accounts in Commercial and HOA Stops in the Bin Cleaning Tech App.
What Shows Up on the Invoice
Invoices carry line items from your service list and sales tax where it applies. A stop that cleaned two trash cans and a recycling can shows that. A pad cleaning shows as a pad cleaning. Customers can see their invoices in the customer app and pay online if they do not have a card on file.
Because the invoice is created at completion, it carries the date the work was done. When a customer asks about a charge, the office can pull up the stop, the photos and the invoice together.
Why This Changes the Office's Week
Without payment at completion, someone in the office builds invoices at the end of the day or week, sends them, and waits. Some pay. Some do not. Then come the reminders and the calls. For a business with small tickets and many customers, that work never ends.
With the card on file charged at completion, most of that disappears. The office spends its time on the exceptions, such as a declined card or a customer who wants to switch to monthly billing, instead of on every single stop.
Clean Cans, Paid Invoice, Next Stop
The tech taps Complete and the money takes care of itself. That keeps techs focused on cleaning and the office focused on growing. For more of what happens on the tech's phone, visit the TrashCanBossPro trash can cleaning app page.
