Crew GPS on the Office Map: Knowing Where Every Bin Cleaning Trailer Is
"Where are you?" is the most common text a bin cleaning owner sends on a route day. To the tech, to the second trailer, to the new hire running a route alone for the first time. Every one of those texts interrupts someone holding a pressure washer wand. Crew GPS on the office map answers the question without asking it.
What the Office Sees
The texts in On-the-Way and Arrived Texts on a Bin Cleaning Route tell customers where the crew is. Crew GPS tells the office. In TrashCanBossPro, the location of each tech's phone shows on the office map during the workday. That is the crew's phone, the same one running the tech app, not a separate tracker bolted to the trailer.
Put that next to the Scheduled List for the day, filtered by trailer, and you have the whole picture: where each rig is, which stops are done, and which are left in the route order.
Answering Customer Calls in Seconds
A customer calls at 11: "Are you coming today? I need to put the cans away." Without GPS, you text the tech, wait for a reply and call the customer back. With GPS, you look at the map, see the trailer four streets away with two stops before theirs, and tell the customer to give it twenty minutes.
Better yet, point customers to the customer app, where the live route map shows their place in line. Many of these calls stop once customers know they can check. See "You're Stop 12": The Customer's Live View of Your Bin Cleaning Route.
Fitting Same-Day Add-Ons
When a same-day request comes in, the map shows which trailer's remaining route passes nearest the new address. Assign the job to that trailer, set its place in the route order on the board, and the tech's phone shows the new card. Without the map, you are guessing which rig is closest and often picking the wrong one.
Rebalancing Two Trailers
With two or more trailers, days rarely go evenly. One tech runs a dense subdivision and is ahead. The other is crossing town between spread-out stops and is behind. The map shows it at a glance. Move a few stops from the behind trailer to the ahead one, and both finish closer to on time.
Over a few weeks, the same imbalance on the same day tells you the split between trailers needs to move. That is a permanent fix, covered in Two Trailers, One City: Splitting Bin Cleaning Routes Between Rigs.
Spotting Problems Early
The map is also a quiet early warning. A trailer that has not moved in forty minutes might have a pump problem, a flat tire or a customer conversation that has gone long. A trailer heading the wrong direction might be working the route out of order. A rig parked at the first stop at 7:30 might have beaten the garbage truck and be waiting.
None of these need a phone call right away. But a quick glance at the map every hour or so lets the office catch a problem while there is still time to fix the day.
Respecting the Crew
Some techs bristle at being tracked. Be clear about what it is and is not. Crew GPS shows where the crew is during the workday so the office can answer customers, fit add-ons and help when something goes wrong. It replaces the "where are you?" texts, not trust.
Pair it with the time clock in the tech app, where techs clock in and out on the same phone. Between the clock and the completed stops with photos, the work speaks for itself, and the GPS mostly fades into the background.
Using the Map After the Day
At the end of a route day, the Scheduled List shows what was completed, what was skipped and why. Combined with what the office saw on the map, you can ask useful questions. Did the trailer bounce between neighborhoods? Did it wait on a garbage truck? Did a skip happen because the tech arrived too late?
Those answers feed back into the route order for next week. A small change to the order, or moving a late-pickup street to the end, can save the same twenty minutes every week from then on.
The Short Version
Crew GPS puts every trailer on the office map during the workday. Use it to answer customers, fit same-day stops, rebalance trailers and catch problems early, and let it replace the "where are you?" texts. For the rest of the routing tools, return to the bin cleaning route software page.
